  1. Thanks Hectence and scchua
I was stalled for a while, having entered the plausible STEM THE TIDE for 26a. UNITES was LOI.

  2. Thanks Hectence, just the right level for a Quiptic, I thought.

Thanks scchua, for the wordplay in 21, shouldn’t it be ‘kiwi’s?’

Some lovely clues, I particularly liked LANDING GEAR, UNITES and BEWILDER.

  3. P.S. Wouldn’t ‘Mum takes gold back from kiwi in New Zealand’ be better? I lazily inserted BOMBER for 16 at first, although BOER was a war not a battle. 🙁

  4. Thanks Hectence and scchua.

I liked CORKSCREW, ABRIDGE, PSYCHE, RUSSIAN ROULETTE and LANDING GEAR.

Robi, I looked at 21a as ‘Mum takes gold kiwi back (home) from New Zealand’. i.e. assumed she had been visiting a son or daughter in NZ. (Incidentally, some people in NZ still regard England as ‘home’.)

  5. P.P.S. Sorry, it is the Tikis that are usually made of greenstone, Kiwis are usually made of gold or silver, often with Paua shell insets, or of wood.
