Lovely fun! Especially after I had worked out how to spell “archipelago”, for which I required all the crossing letters. I had many answers pencilled (as opposed to inked) in for a long time, but it all turned out to be very well-defined at the end.
As Emrys says, good fun. Raich is always a WYSIWYG setter, and I mean that as a compliment.
I thought that THATCH and PARISH were particularly good. SCONE looks obscure, but the village itself is best known for the STONE OF SCONE, upon which Scottish kings were crowned until Edward I pinched it and put it in Westminster Abbey. I think it’s back in Scotland now.
Thanks to S&B.
Good fun, about usual difficulty for Sunday, had to have several looks at 1A, funny how these clues always seem obvious afterwards.
14A It is just CHIP, the initial A is provided by ARGO.
Thanks to Raich and scchua.
Many thanks, scchua, for the excellent blog and thanks too to those who commented.
